Our plane arrived in shanghai about 11AM. The flight from Korea took just about 11hours and 30 minutes. We made it through customs with no problem. The customs agent looked long and hard at my 5 year old, short hair, 20 fewer pounds, picture before he let me in however. On the way to meet the bus we were going down a moving side walk, sort of an escalator, and someone in front got stuck. Everyone begin to get bogged up and I fell under some suitcases. I got scrapped up but no one was seriously hurt. Diane Thayer moved fast to get luggage out of the way and was yelling at me to get up. I think she averted something that could have been very serious. I am glad she is my friend.

We got on the bus and begin to go to where we had lunch. Our tour guide, Henry (American name) told us some very interesting things. Shanghai is the second biggest city in China. Another city has has 32,000,000 people. Shanghai has 18,000,000. We saw the famous magnetic levitation train which is the fastest rail in the world. It goes 260 miles per hour. It was built by the Germans but turned out to be way more expensive than they had planned. It cost them about 1.5 million dollars per mile. We may get to ride on it the last day we are in China. He gave us two rules for walking on the streets of Shanghai. 1. Cars don’t stop for pedestrians. 2. The braver one has the right of way.
This is Sally Lowe. She is the coordinator of the whole program. She was very organized and took good care of us. She was born and raised in China, but now teaches in Los Angeles.
